NEW PROFESSIONAL PANTOMIME COMES TO LETCHWORTH (oh yes it does!)
The Night B4 Christmas is a brand new family pantomime starring all your favourite fairytale characters...Prince Charming (the handsome one for all you teenage girls), Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, Little Bo Peep, The Fairy God Mother, Cinderella, the Big Bad Wolf and The 4 Greek Sheep (for erm, your pet dog?).
The completely original score has been written by award-winning composer Pippa Cleary and will really get you smiling. Both Pippa and the director Jodi De Souza have worked in the West End, so you can be sure this show will have quality stamped all over it. The adult cast are all professionals, and the show even stars two local young chaps from Letchworth and Hitchin who won the part of Little Johnny earlier this month.
We caught up with pantomime director Jodi De Souza earlier this week:
Interviewer: “Bored of the same old panto? - what’s this all about Jodi?”
Jodi: “Well, I’d like to bring pantomime into the 21st Century. Sometimes you can go to a pantomime year after year and it’s the same old thing - the same dame, the same jokes, some of the same costumes even. What we want to do is create a show which is amazingly exciting and fresh - something you haven’t ever seen before which connects with the younger generation.”
Interviewer: “So no ‘he’s behind you’ jokes then?”
Jodi: “Oh yes there is! There are still lots of traditional elements in our pantomime. They are just presented in a more contemporary way. We make use of film in the show and our set and costumes are inspired by the likes of Tim Burton and Eugenio Recuenco. It truly is a magical piece of interactive theatre which is really fresh!”
The state-of-the-art venue seats 500, which makes it the largest auditorium in Letchworth, and it has great disabled facilities.
Tickets are cheap for a professional pantomime at only £8 / £12, and you can also get special family deals. Shows run from 15th - 23rd December 2010.

MAY 2010 - LONDON - For Immediate Release
Asking Ibsens questions to a new generation The Humble Theatre Company creates a daring new intermedia staging of one of his greatest works.
Presented with a unique focus on the breaking of innocence and the manipulation of power, this modern staging - set in twenty-first century England (where in 2008 there were more than 20,000 recorded sex offenses against children) - creates a play that truly resonates just as much today as it did when Ibsen first drew the plans for it.
Originally inspired by The Builders Associations 1994 American production, the incorporation of new media seeks to spark and encourage the capacity for active critical thinking. As our children grow up in a world where it is so easy to be accessed by abusers through the internet, there are questions to be raised about virtual fantasy and the lasting effects it will bring.
Follow Hildes journey and character as the production gives particular attention to the psychological effect of being kissed and promised the world by a man of power at the age of 12, and subsequently being left alone and forgotten.
Any profits from this production will go to the NSPCC
