The Production
With the support of BAAF (The British Association for Adoption and Fostering) and Masterclass, Sniggle was staged in August 2008 at The Theatre Royal Haymarket, providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for 3 young people who are in the care of local authorities to explore their creativity by participating in a live stage show in the West End. Sniggle was staged on the 29th August 2008 at 1pm as part of SOLTs Kidsweek

Sniggle gave 3 special young people an opportunity which they may never otherwise have had to devise and rehearse a show and then see it fully realised on a leading West End stage. It gave them opportunity to work with young professionals in the industry and have direct access to their knowledge of the industry and their other contacts. It gave them opportunity to explore their creativity in a safe environment one where all of them are in/come from the same situation (as opposed to say when they are at a normal drama class / at school where their peers have a very different home life experience). Sniggle inspired them to look forward to a brighter future and see new potential in themselves.
Sniggle also raised awareness of the issues that these young people face, and hopefully encouraged people to be more sensitive to them. Around 60,000 children are in the care of local authorities at any given time, almost 9000 of these are in childrens homes and not in foster care. Many young people over the age of 11 remain in foster care despite being ready for adoption because there are not enough potential adopters willing to adopt older children.
